Tooth Removal as You Age

by Lyn mccarrell | May 6, 2020 | Oral Surgeon

When you’re young and begin losing baby teeth, it can be fun, and it is not usually too painful. You may have a tooth knocked out as you hit your teen years or even in your young adulthood, but it rarely damages your mouth or cause a great deal of hassle. The problems start to occur when your wisdom teeth make an appearance. You need to have wisdom teeth removal in Port Orange before the teeth become impacted and infected.

If you are having all of your wisdom teeth taken out at one time, you may want to consider having general anesthesia and a stay in the hospital. Hospital stay is required if all four wisdom teeth are to be removed; you are going to be in a lot of pain so that local anesthesia will not cut it. Many people can get away with just having one or two of their wisdom teeth removed and some people may be able to just have a shot of anesthesia to numb the tooth area while the tooth is removed. In more serious cases, teeth removal in Port Orange could be done on two separate visits to the dentist or may be done in the hospital with a long recovery after.

The arrival of wisdom teeth is not an enjoyable event for the majority of people. For that reason, the thought of these teeth coming in is enough to make most grownups avoid going to the dentist once and for all. It is a very bad idea, however, to just let these teeth do their own thing. They may not break through the gums fully and can become infected. Or the teeth can come in and crowd the rest of the teeth, forcing them to shift and move around. Overcrowded teeth are painful and even cause problems such as crooked teeth and teeth cracking because there is no space for them. The best way to determine your wisdom tooth situation is to have a dentist take an x-ray of your mouth and see where they are. The teeth may be in a reasonable position and may not be posing a problem and can, therefore, stay in the mouth. The dentist will still want to monitor their progress to ensure they emerge correctly. If you live in Port Orange areas in Florida and are looking for the most professional surgeons in the industry, you can count on Cardinal Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates to provide excellent service.
